When a Ford engine fails, the choice is simple: replace it with a second-hand gamble, buy a brand-new unit from the dealer at a four-figure premium, or speak to a Ford engine reconditioner in Manchester who can supply a rebuilt engine that performs like new. At Manchester EcoBoost & Diesel Specialists, we supply and fit reconditioned Ford engines for private owners, fleet operators, independent garages and bodyshops across Greater Manchester and the North West.

Why choose a reconditioned Ford engine?

A professionally reconditioned engine is not a used engine. It is stripped, cleaned, inspected and rebuilt using new wearing parts. The block is bored and honed, the crankshaft is ground or polished, the cylinder head is pressure-tested and skimmed, and every seal, gasket and bearing is replaced. The result is an engine with near-new tolerances, fresh oil galleries and a full warranty — at a fraction of dealer cost.

We rebuild Ford petrol and diesel engines daily. Our workshop sees the same failures repeatedly: 1.0 EcoBoost wet belt collapse, 1.5 EcoBoost timing chain stretch, 1.6 TDCi cracked cylinder heads, 2.0 TDCi oil pump failure and 2.0 EcoBlue crankshaft issues. That repetition means we know exactly what to inspect, what to replace and how to make the rebuilt unit last.

Ford engine supply only — delivered to your door or workshop

If you have your own installer, we can supply a fully reconditioned Ford engine on an exchange or non-exchange basis. Every supply-only engine leaves our Manchester workshop with:

  • A detailed build sheet listing all parts replaced
  • Pre-delivery oil-pressure and leak-down test results
  • 12-month parts warranty
  • Collection from Oldham or pallet delivery across the UK

We photograph the engine before dispatch and label every connection point so your installer knows exactly what is included. If you need ancillaries — turbo, injectors, fuel pump, alternator, starter — we can quote those separately.

Supply and fit reconditioned Ford engines in Manchester

Most customers prefer the security of a single supplier who both builds the engine and installs it. Our supply-and-fit service covers the full process:

  1. Diagnostic confirmation that the engine is beyond economical repair
  2. Removal of the old engine and full inspection of ancillaries
  3. Reconditioned engine build to your vehicle's exact specification
  4. Professional installation using manufacturer torque sequences
  5. New fluids, filters, timing components and coolant
  6. Post-fit running-in check, ECU fault-code scan and road test

Because we control both the build and the installation, our warranty covers parts and labour. There is no argument between supplier and fitter if a problem arises.

EcoBoost engine reconditioning

Ford's EcoBoost petrol engines are compact, powerful and efficient, but they are not forgiving of poor maintenance. The 1.0 EcoBoost wet belt can shed fibres into the oil pump if not replaced on time. The 1.5 and 1.6 EcoBoost units can suffer timing chain stretch, piston ring wear and coolant loss into cylinders.

Our EcoBoost rebuilds include cylinder head pressure testing, valve seat recutting, piston and ring replacement, big-end and main bearing replacement, oil pump renewal and a full timing kit. We also flush the oil cooler and replace the turbo oil feed pipe to prevent repeat failures.

Diesel engine reconditioning — TDCi, EcoBlue & Duratorq

Diesel Ford engines are built to last, but high mileage, skipped oil changes and DPF problems can cause catastrophic wear. We recondition:

  • 1.4 TDCi and 1.5 TDCi Fiesta and Focus units
  • 1.6 TDCi — common cracked head and turbo failure
  • 1.8 TDCi and 2.0 TDCi — Focus, C-Max, Mondeo, Galaxy, S-Max
  • 2.2 TDCi — Transit and Ranger applications
  • 2.0 EcoBlue — Transit Custom, Focus, Kuga and new-shape Ranger

Diesel rebuilds receive new piston rings, honing, crankshaft bearings, oil pump, timing chain or belt kit, head gasket set and all seals. Injector seats are recut and glow plugs are replaced before the head is torqued down.

What is included in a rebuilt Ford engine?

Every reconditioned engine we supply is built to a consistent standard. The short engine is stripped completely, hot-washed and crack-tested. We then carry out:

  • Cylinder block boring and honing to match new pistons
  • Crankshaft grinding, polishing and dynamic balancing
  • Connecting-rod small-end and big-end inspection
  • Cylinder head pressure testing, skimming and valve re-cutting
  • Camshaft, followers and hydraulic lifter inspection
  • New timing chain, belt, tensioners and guides where fitted
  • New oil pump, water pump, thermostat and gasket set
  • All core plugs, seals and O-rings replaced

Once assembled, the engine is primed, turned over to establish oil pressure and run until warm. We check for leaks, noises, smoke and abnormal temperatures before it is released.

Engine failure diagnosis before you commit

Not every noisy or smoky engine needs replacing. We start with a full diagnosis: compression test, leak-down test, coolant pressure test, oil pressure check, borescope inspection and ECU fault-code analysis. If the damage is limited to a cylinder head, turbo or timing chain, repair may be far cheaper than a full engine.

If the engine is genuinely beyond repair, we give you a written report with photographs. That report becomes the specification for the replacement engine, so you know exactly what you are paying for.

Warranty you can rely on

All our supply-and-fit reconditioned engines carry a 12-month parts and labour warranty. Supply-only engines carry a 12-month parts warranty. The warranty is valid for private use and commercial fleet use, provided the engine is run in correctly and serviced on schedule.

We honour warranties without argument. If an issue is traced to our build, we fix it. If it is traced to an external cause — contaminated fuel, coolant loss or missed oil change — we explain the evidence and quote the repair fairly.

Who buys engines from us?

We supply reconditioned Ford engines to a wide range of customers:

  • Private owners whose car is worth saving but the dealer quote is too high
  • Independent garages who need a reliable engine supplier with fast turnaround
  • Bodyshops carrying out accident repairs where the engine has been damaged
  • Fleet operators running Transits and Rangers who need minimum downtime
  • Specialist Ford tuners building high-performance EcoBoost projects

Whether you need one engine or a regular supply, we can quote accurately from your registration number or VIN.

How the process works

  1. Contact us with your registration, engine code or VIN
  2. We confirm availability and quote supply-only or supply-and-fit
  3. You book a slot — most builds take 5–10 working days depending on parts
  4. We build, test and install (or dispatch if supply-only)
  5. You collect or we deliver with warranty paperwork and build sheet

We keep a large stock of short engines, cylinder heads and core components, which means we can often reduce lead times on common Ford units.

Areas we cover

Our workshop is in Oldham, Greater Manchester, and we regularly supply and fit engines for customers from Manchester, Oldham, Rochdale, Bury, Stockport, Salford, Bolton, Tameside and Trafford. We also arrange pallet delivery anywhere in the UK for supply-only orders.

If you are searching for a Ford engine supplier in Manchester, a reconditioned Ford engine or a Ford engine reconditioner near me, call us first. We will give you an honest assessment and a clear price with no hidden extras.

Engine codes and vehicle coverage

When you call for a quote, we will usually ask for your registration number or engine code. This lets us confirm the exact specification, because Ford used several variants of each engine family across model years. Common codes we work with include:

  • 1.0 EcoBoost — M1DA, M1DB, M1DC, M2DA, M2DB, B1DA, B1DB
  • 1.5 EcoBoost — XWDA, XWDB, YWDA
  • 1.6 EcoBoost — JTDA, JTDB, JTCA, JTWA, JXDA
  • 1.6 TDCi — TZDA, T3DA, T3DB, UHDA, UHDB
  • 2.0 TDCi — TXDA, TXDB, TYDA, UFDA, UFDB, UKDA
  • 2.2 TDCi — CVRA, CVRB, CVRC, PGFA, PGFB
  • 2.0 EcoBlue — YLDA, YLDB, YN2A, YN2B, YV2A

Knowing the engine code ensures we supply the correct turbo, injectors, timing components and ECU calibration. It also avoids surprises with emissions equipment such as EGR coolers, DPF mounting points and AdBlue dosing modules.

Exchange or non-exchange — which is right for you?

Most reconditioned engines are supplied on an exchange basis. You pay a surcharge when the replacement engine leaves our workshop, and we refund it when your old engine is returned in rebuildable condition. This keeps costs down and lets us recover usable core components.

If your old engine is damaged beyond recovery — for example, a thrown rod has split the block — we can quote a non-exchange price. We still take the old unit for scrap recycling, but no surcharge is applied.

For supply-only customers, we arrange collection of the old engine on a pallet at the same time the replacement is delivered. For supply-and-fit customers, we simply remove the old unit during installation.

Running-in your reconditioned Ford engine

A reconditioned engine needs a careful running-in period to bed in piston rings, bearings and seals. We provide a printed running-in sheet with every engine, but the basics are:

  • Keep engine speed varied for the first 500 miles — avoid long constant-speed motorway runs
  • Do not labour the engine or exceed 3,500 rpm for the first 1,000 miles
  • Check oil level every 250 miles during running-in
  • Change oil and filter at 1,000 miles, then follow Ford's normal service interval
  • Use the correct oil grade — many EcoBoost and TDCi engines need fully synthetic 5W-20 or 5W-30

Following this process protects your warranty and helps the engine reach its full lifespan.

Trade accounts and fleet support

We operate trade accounts for independent garages, bodyshops and fleet workshops across the North West. Trade customers benefit from:

  • Priority booking on common Ford engines
  • Consistent exchange pricing
  • Direct technical support from our workshop
  • Itemised build sheets for every engine
  • Fast turnaround on supply-only orders

If you run a fleet of Ford Transits, Transit Customs or Rangers, we can also set up a scheduled maintenance agreement to identify engines approaching failure before they leave you stranded.

Quality control at every stage

Every reconditioned engine passes through the same quality checks before it leaves our Manchester workshop. We measure bore ovality, piston-to-bore clearance, crankshaft end-float and cylinder head flatness against manufacturer tolerances. We pressure-test oil galleries, coolant passages and combustion chambers, and we run the engine until it reaches operating temperature to confirm thermostat operation and oil pressure.

If a component does not meet our standard, it is replaced. We do not reuse worn bearings, scored pistons, cracked guides or leaking seals. That discipline is why our engines carry a 12-month warranty and why trade customers come back to us repeatedly.

Repair or replace — how to decide

Not every engine failure needs a full replacement. We always diagnose first. If the damage is confined to the cylinder head, a head gasket repair may be enough. If the bottom end is noisy but compression is good, a short-engine rebuild might be the answer. If the block is cracked, the crankshaft is damaged or multiple cylinders have lost compression, a fully reconditioned engine is usually the most cost-effective long-term solution.

We will talk you through the options honestly. If repair makes more sense than replacement, we will tell you. Our reputation depends on fixing cars properly, not selling engines unnecessarily.
